How does it work?

REGISTRATION

Teachers or other administrators, as outlined in the eligibility guidelines, can register their class online at:
•    http://walkitbikeitct.org

Each teacher will create a log in name and password for their class. This password will allow them to log their student's mileage.

Students cannot register as individual participants and they may not register themselves. Only the registrant (teacher or administrator) will be assigned online login information. Teachers locate their school from the list of Connecticut public and private schools and then register their individual classroom. All registered participants, as well as all visitors can view registered schools online at:
•    http://walkitbikeitct.org

Teachers from each school will receive a designated code assigned to their school for security. This code will be necessary to complete registration and log in. Codes are provided in the Walk It Bike It introductory letter. Codes can also be obtained by emailing requests to info@walkitbikeitct.org.

Teachers do not register their students by name, age or any other denomination.

PROGRESS TRACKING

Teachers will log in online at http://walkitbikeitct.org to enter and track their class’ progress.

Classrooms and teachers can see their progress in comparison to other participating classrooms in their schools as well as other schools in Connecticut. The schools logging the most miles will be displayed on the http://walkitbikeitct.org home page.

Miles will be logged by total classroom participation, not by individual progress.

MILEAGE

Miles for the Walk It Bike It program can only be earned by walking and biking to and from school, or through the organized school or classroom activities as outlined below. Miles logged outside of these parameters and mileage values do not count.

Teachers record their classroom's progress by logging the miles their students walk or bike. Teachers are responsible for recording walking or biking activity. The total number of miles collected daily must then be entered weekly by the teacher or administrator in Walk It Bike It log in area on http://walkitbikeitct.org.

Mileage must be earned by completing tasks from the following list. Mileage values are set and cannot be altered, regardless of walking or biking distance or activity time frame. Teachers poll their students daily and log the total value of the activity completed weekly.

Activities outside of these parameters can be logged online by adding a short description of the activity.

Please visit http://walkitbikeitct.org for more information on how to implement these programs and for more walking and biking options.
